Task 3: What is a Drought

Task 3a: Watch this video to expand your understanding of drought. 

 


 Did you know that farmers depend on water for their livelihood? When their crops and farm animals die during a natural disaster such as a drought or flooding, there is a shortage of fruits, vegetables, milk and meat.

Task 3b: Have a look at the below image of the drought cycle


Notice the movement of the arrows. They are moving circularly. It means that when the earth’s temperature increases, its moisture evaporates, leaving the ground dry and cracked. Dry grounds cannot support plant life.

Activities

1.     Explain what happens to vegetation during a drought.

2.    Why does this happen? Are there plants that can survive the drought?
